Inspired By A Tweet - Personal Online Reputation Management 2
Inspired by a great tweet by @unmarketing “Never tweet anything u wouldn't want on a billboard with ur company name on it.”
In this video I take another look at personal online reputation management and suggest the same rule can be applied.

2009 truly is the year of Transparency, so good call on being extra careful with what you post on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Society is pretty open minded these days, especially in Europe and other parts of the world outside of the US, so go ahead and say some racy things that make you stand out. Being Politically correct all the time and sensitive to everyone's needs will make you a boring person. If you want to stand out big time in the Social Networking Universe, say something that you passionately believe in even if it is not 100% "proper".
Think outside the box but still respect the contents of the box.
All the best in 2009!
I like your comments. I luckily am the same person at work as I am in my personal life so I don't feel I have anything to hide. That being said I do have a filter before I post which is good (albeit a very thin filter).
ReplyDeleteYesterday, one of the investors in the company I work for mentioned he read my blog. My first question was 'why?' ... it is a personal blog not a professional blog and my second thought was 'did I sound silly there?'. So, you definitely need to consider how public the internet is in everything you do.
Hey Adrian and Lisa,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by and bigger thanks for the comments! The more I am talking to people about this topic the more I want to dig deeper.
Adrian,
Great to point out and remind that 2009 will be the year of transparency. Seems like a theme top to bottom these days.
I’m all for being yourself, and if that did not come across then I apologize. As I said, I let my daughter decide if the content on the video was appropriate in her opinion. I know various people who have no problem dropping f-bombs on public videos and interviews; maybe not what I would do but if they are fine with that then good on them. Gary V is one of my inspirations and... well, enough said :)
Lisa,
I think it is healthy and balanced to be essentially the same person. When and if I need my filter, a little Saul Colt pops up on my shoulder and whispers into my ear “the internet is forever” :)
Cheers,
g
